While watching that new My Little Pony cartoon, I keep telling myself over and over to not overanalyze the political/social/racial structures of a world populated by candy-colored talking ponies, but… I just can’t stop. Articles like this certainly don’t help. (…No matter how benevolent, is it really a good idea to have a sovereign who’s immortal, has ruled for over a thousand years, and literally controls the movement of celestial bodies? Do the seasons really not change without pony intervention, or is that just propaganda to inspire collectivist effort? Is it okay for a baby dragon to be brought up with no peers of his own kind? Is rudeness just a coping mechanism for being the only griffon in an all-pony society? Why do the ponies have young siblings, but we never hear about their parents? If the cows can talk too, why do the ponies all have their own houses but the cows live in a barn? Is there another country somewhere where colorful magic cows keep horses in barns? Oh god…)
